Extremadura has one of the newest Denominaciónes de Origen for wine and the Ribera del Guadiana is also striving to be one of the most dynamic. The region is producing modern, high-quality wines that have a distinctive character that has seen them earn their D.O. status.

Heavy investment in technology has propelled this region to the forefront of cutting-edge wine making in Spain; producing wines of distinction that offer excellent value for money. The wines of Ribera de Gaudiana are starting to get noticed and they are well worth checking out if you can track them down.

Production is spread across six sub-regions: Tierra de Barros, Montánchez, Ribera alta, Ribera Baja, Matanegra and Cañameroare the largest and most productive of which is the Tierra de Barros. The wines are being promoted as the perfect accompaniment to the fine local ham and cheese products that already have a reputation for undisputable quality and if the wine can become even half as cherished as these culinary delicacies then it has a very bright future.

The counsel of the D.O. describes their wines as "Dynamic and different" and that you can "taste the land in every mouthful" and they seem to be doing a great job of marketing the Ribera del Guadiana brand.
